Public Meeting on Proposed Byrd Park Rope Course

As we mentioned here, a Rope Course is proposed for Byrd Park. Go Ape, an outdoor treetop adventure company with 31 ropes courses in the United States and the United Kingdom, has proposed construction of a ropes course for Richmond that would be located in the wooded area behind the Carillon.

This Thursday, November 18, 2010, there will be a Public Meeting on this proposed Byrd Park Ropes Course.

Councilman Marty Jewell Hospitalized

On Wednesday April 14, 2010, the Richmond City Council released this statement regarding Councilman Marty Jewell:

(Richmond, Virginia) – Yesterday evening, [Tuesday April 13] Richmond City Councilman E. Martin “Marty” Jewell, Central 5th District was admitted to St. Mary’s Hospital.

Upon experiencing some chest discomfort and with his physician’s office being closed, Councilman Jewell decided to go to the hospital where he was admitted and is currently being evaluated.

Councilman Jewell anticipates being discharged in a couple of days and thanks the Richmond Community for their thoughts and prayers. Mr. Jewell’s family requests no phone calls, flowers or visitation at this time.

Our 5th district Councilman “Marty” Jewell was arrested at 1:30AM on Oct 24. At this time, no details have been released, but the councilman did release this statement to CBS 6 News:

“On the advice of council, I won’t be saying anything more until Monday. I look forward to all the facts being made public.”

We look forward to hearing those details too, Marty.

There has been no report or response from Councilman Jewell or his staff. The day after the arrest Jewell attended the regularly scheduled City Council meeting but had no comment.
